THE UNSEEN INFLUENCE OF WATER IS DIRECTLY LINKED TO OUR WELLBEING
Being on or around the element of water, under the sun and in the salt air goes along way towards better physical and mental health.
The Veteran Maritime Warrior Project is here too supports past and present Military men and women, and their families at nil cost through a variety of programs not accessible elsewhere. Families are often forgotten as a result of our time in the services, their own sacrifice is difficult to understand and measure.
Advocacy support is one of the most important elements of our project. Having your 'ducks in a arrow' with DVA compensation and knowing where to turn to find welfare help to dramatically decreases levels of anxiety. We work with veterans through our Mental Health 1st Aiders and Compensation Advocate (level 2) to co design an action plan or a goal setting plan that works on giving you a path to follow.
The overwhelming mental health benefit from being on or by the sea is staggering, largely ignored as a result of our lifestyle choices. This project is exciting, it's different, and has something to Pique an interest with everyone.
Veterans have every chance to increase feelings of self-worth, purpose and create a sense of belonging, they become better models of themselves. We want our warriors challenged regularly while cruising, pursue the things that reinforce accomplishment.
BE HEALTHY, BE SUPPORTED SET GOALS, UP-SKILL, ACHIEVE INCREASE SELF-WORTH FIND PURPOSE, CONNECT WITH OTHERS DISCOVER THE POWER OF GIVING
Along the way we help those who help others, by turning the newly trained, recognised skilled and qualified Warriors to practical crewing of our commercially registered 43ft yacht for other not for profits & charities.
Warriors lead peers and beneficiaries of numerous charities on adventures across the Gold Coast Broadwater and Brisbane.
THE PROJECT
All services and activities are at nil cost to the veteran and family member.
Grasping the DVA claims process is usually confusing, time-consuming and stressful. Let's face it, it's not the veterans core skill, however our compensation advocate will get you to the starting point and assist you along the way.
Whether you just need some advice to complete your application, or you don’t know where to start, our trained staff and volunteers can help.
Our peer support and mental health first aiders are alway here to support and help you tap into the community and government services that could be of benefit.
BLUE MINDS PROGRAM
We've created a platform for veterans, a place to come with or without family to take time out, recharge and reset through a rewarding day program based around our big 4 and nothing more 'Movement, Environment, Connections, All about you' MEC-A.
This program is designed to take any veteran or family member no matter where they are in life, from high performers to someone struggling. You help get the yacht from alongside to an anchoring location, as a group we get the tender in the water, move to an island and traverse to the surf beach for phase 2
SOCIAL SAILING / RACING
One of our 'Big 4 and nothing more' is Connections. We have near weekly sailing events racing at the Southport Yacht Club against 25 other yachts.
Try sailing with your peers, plenty of chats along the course, meet new people, open your network.
Open to all veterans and family members from no experience to the seasoned visiting competitors. We emphasize 'social', can also introduce you to other yachts for experience.
UPSKILL PROGRAM / EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Our Maritime Warrior Training School encourages and introduces veterans to a social and healthy activity on the water by boating. Achieving a small goal can go along way to positive feelings of self worth, with new skills we look to building relationships with family and friends and live a more fulfilling life.
Designed for the Warrior who's attracted to the sea or understands the mentally rewarding benefits of working on the water. You'll have the opportunity to attain formal commercial qualifications as a Maritime Warrior.
3rd PARTY CREW OPPORTUNITIES
Help relocate a sail or powered boat with a professional or a private yacht cruising through the Barrier Reef, Pacific or beyond.
A range of requests from no experience needed to experienced crew flow through the Maritime Warriors project. These may be domestic or international, may get flights internationally then sail home to relocate a vessel, my get all expenses paid and or be paid a fee for your troubles.
The scientific benefits to individual, team and company by helping others are enormous. The release of neurochemicals when we assist people to achieve increases a flow of natural 'happiness' chemicals such as oxytocin and serotonin.
We're excited at the thought of helping charities with their own cause by crewing the yacht (having some fun at the same time). It will give our crew a significant sense of belonging and purpose.
